The Lahore High Court has ordered the immediate release of prominent political activist, Arif Hussain, who was detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance.
The court ruled that the detention was unlawful and a violation of Hussain’s fundamental rights.
This decision follows a series of protests and legal challenges by human rights groups and political supporters demanding his release.
The bench, led by Justice Ayesha Malik, criticized the arbitrary use of the MPO ordinance to suppress dissent and emphasized the need for adherence to constitutional protections.
The court has directed the authorities to refrain from using detention orders as a tool for political repression and to ensure that all actions are in compliance with the law.
