The Islamabad High Court has ordered a swift decision in the high-profile Iddat marriage case. Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb directed the lower court to resolve the case within a month and decide on related appeals within 10 days.
The case involves allegations against prominent political figures, including PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, regarding their marriage during the Iddat period.
The Iddat period is a mandatory waiting period in Islamic law that a woman must observe after the death of her husband or divorce before she can remarry.
Lawyer Salman Akram Raja, representing the defendants, argued that the case had been unjustly transferred to an Additional Session Judge, causing delays. He urged the court to ensure a timely decision to prevent further legal complications.
The High Court’s directive aims to expedite the judicial process and provide a fair resolution to the involved parties.
The decision is expected to set a significant precedent for similar cases in the future, highlighting the importance of adhering to religious and legal norms.
