Rawalpindi: Accountability Court Grants 7-Day Remand for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi
An accountability court in Rawalpindi has approved a seven-day remand for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in a new Toshakhana reference.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had requested a 14-day remand, but the court denied it, instructing NAB to present the couple on July 29.
Following the expiration of their previous eight-day remand, NAB’s team presented the couple in court and submitted a progress report.
Imran Khan, the 71-year-old cricketer-turned-politician, has been imprisoned for nearly a year on various charges, including the Toshakhana case, cipher case, and un-Islamic marriage case.
His wife, Bushra Bibi, has also been detained for several months.
Although there were expectations for their release in July, these hopes were thwarted when NAB arrested them on new allegations involving the sale of state gifts.
Despite a suspension of his sentence in the Toshakhana case and overturned convictions in other cases, the couple remains in custody.
